How to successfully implement the Accessibility Improvement Act BFSG

From 28 June 2025, the Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz (BFSG) will come into force in Germany, which prescribes the accessibility of websites and mobile applications for certain companies and public institutions.

EGOCMS supports companies in the implementation of the Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz (BFSG) with the following functions:

  • Barrier checker: This module checks the HTML validity of the content entered and identifies potential barriers. EGOCMS Help
  • Entering alternative texts: Editors can enter alternative texts for images and summaries of tables directly in the live editor to improve accessibility for screen reader users. EGOCMS
  • Accessible video player: Optionally, the Ableplayer can be integrated, which is designed for accessibility and offers functions such as subtitles and chapter support. EGOCMS Help

With these functions, EGOCMS enables the creation of accessible websites and supports companies in fulfilling the requirements of the BFSG.

EGOTEC recommends a structured process for the implementation of accessibility:

  1. Preparation: Inventory of the website's content and functions.
  2. Automated and manual tests: Check based on the WCAG 2.1 and BITV 2.0 guidelines.
  3. Analysis of critical areas: Focus on contrast, screen reader compatibility, keyboard navigation and accessible PDF documents.
  4. Elimination of identified barriers: Prioritisation and close collaboration with developers and editors.
  5. Review: Final tests, supplemented by feedback from affected user groups.
  6. Long-term assurance: Regular reviews, training and audits

EGOTEC works with a clearly defined schedule that provides for the implementation of accessibility in several phases over 10 to 14 weeks. This includes preparation, testing, removal of barriers and quality assurance.

Companies and public institutions should start implementing the BFSG requirements at an early stage in order to meet the legal deadline and avoid penalties. EGOTEC is on hand as a competent partner to help make digital services accessible.
